And, like any other animal type, specialty animal herds can also be vulnerable to intruders or escape. In either case, a property owner is concerned with keeping deer in – or out – of the area they are protecting. Even though the White Tail Deer has the astounding ability to jump, they’ll rarely take on an enclosure that doesn’t ensure a safe landing on the other side. In addition, their eyesight does not provide reliable depth perception, which further deters them from taking a giant leap, because they can’t be sure how high the fence in front of them might be.

Deer are strong and powerful. Not only is their ability to jump impressive, so is their persistence. They will test the integrity of a fence until they are successful. Flimsy materials won’t stand a chance against a determined deer. If they can’t jump over the barrier, they will poke, prod, and chew their way through it if there’s something on the other side that they really want. However, you can rest easy if you invest in quality materials, careful design and proper installation. Choose heavy-duty, woven wire mesh to avoid wear and tear from both animals and weather. The rigid knots will hold horizontal and vertical wires in place to keep the fence taught and upright. They’ll also prevent slipping, which could create convenient openings for intruders. Tight, graduated spacing near the bottom also deters predators from entering the enclosure. Finally, be sure the fence is of adequate height to prevent entry or escape.
Welded vs Woven Fence
Welded wire is no match for the force of a deer in motion. Not only can broken wire severely injure the animal, repairs to the fence can become extensive and expensive. Woven mesh, on the other hand, prevents fence failure.

Construction
Red Brand’s Cross Lock® Knot is used for
Deer and Wildlife fence. This knot is specially designed to resist wear and tear from antlers, pressure from large animals, and extreme weather. While rigid, the fence is still flexible enough for all terrain types.
Spacing
The graduated spacing deters intruders
of all sizes, beginning with 3" intervals at
the bottom up to 8.5" near the top. The
pull out spacing is 6" between vertical wires and the overall height of this fence is 8'.
Wire
The wire used for Deer and Wildlife fence
is heavy-duty 12-½ gauge high tensile wire.
It's galvanized with a Class 3 zinc coating for the most rust resistant finish.

DEER & ORCHARD FENCE
Construction
Our woven mesh Deer & Orchard Fence is constructed using Red Brand's Monarch® Knot. The knot acts like a hinge, giving a little under pressure so the fence won't break. When the pressure is reduced the fence snaps back into shape.
Spacing
Deer & Orchard fence uses graduated spacing to keep small animals out near the bottom. Starting with 1" spacing, it opens up to 4" wide further up the fence. The steady increase prevents intrusion while being efficient with valuable material.
Wire
This fence uses rigid 11 gauge wire on the top and bottom line wires. The filler wire is 14-½ gauge. The result is a strong and reliable mesh. It's also galvanized with a class one zinc coating for durability
and longevity.

Deer & Orchard Fence was designed to prevent deer from entering an enclosure, and does this job exceedingly well. In addition, the tight, graduated design of the wire mesh deters other predators and unwanted vermin from getting into valuable crops and property.

Installed a year ago and has very effectively critter proofed my vegetable garden. Fully expect I will never need a replacement. An unexpected benefit is that I used the leftover fence for tomato cages. I cut sections the same length as I want the height of the cages to be. Then cut away foot or so (where line wires are narrowly spaced), Turn sections 90 degrees from its normal orientation. In this orientation its flexibility makes it easy to form into cylinders which are easily flattened for storage at the end of the season.
